Final days to file comments
For years, the Greater Yellowstone Coalition has staunchly opposed construction of a hydroelectric dam in the Oneida Narrows section of the Bear River. In October, the staff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) took a significant step toward stopping this ill-conceived proposal. FERC staff recommended the project be denied based on “unavoidable adverse environmental effects” the dam would cause.
Is this the end of the line for the dam? Not quite. There is still one more step and we need your help. The Commissioners who oversee FERC need to accept the recommendation from their staff and formally deny the proposal to build the dam. The comment period ends November 30, 2015.
You can file comments with FERC here: https://ferconline.ferc.gov/QuickComment.aspx
This link will authorize you to use the agency’s quick comment process. Use the FERC project number P-12486 to reference the Oneida Narrows Dam application by Twin Lakes Canal Company. Tell FERC you agree with the staff recommendations, that damming the Oneida Narrows would drown the Bear River and destroy important fish and wildlife habitat.
We are one step away from defending this beautiful stretch of river from being dammed.
Join us in standing up for the Bear River!
