Madison River
Madison River

One of the most famous trout fishing rivers in the world, the Madison begins in Yellowstone at the confluence of the Firehole and Gibbon rivers. It carves a rugged canyon just west of the park, punches through a natural rock dam created by a 1959 earthquake, then turns north through a broad valley famed for its large brown and rainbow trout. The Madison powers through Bear Trap Canyon north of Ennis before embarking on a meandering journey to a confluence with the Jefferson and Gallatin rivers.
