CAROL WALDEN
SENIOR OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE
At the Greater Yellowstone Coalition, Carol works closely with the board of directors and assists GYC’s executive director. She oversees the headquarters office and assists GYC’s field offices. She also manages GYC’s IT and vehicles.
Carol has lived in Bozeman for over 15 years. This is where she and her husband raised their two daughters. Carol grew up in Seattle, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in economics at the University of Puget Sound. Even though her work at GYC is on the administrative side, she feels very connected to GYC and its mission because its work is in her “backyard,” so to say.
Although Carol is no longer partial to the Seattle weather, she is an avid Seahawks fan! Outside the office, she chases the sunshine while exploring Montana’s outdoors with her husband, Scott, and their dog, Stormy. She also enjoys watching all the animals just outside her actual backyard, from deer, owls, eagles, hawks, and sandhill cranes. She hopes to see elk there this winter.
Book I’d Recommend – Free Fire by C.J. Box. A fictional book on murders in a remote 50-square-mile area of Yellowstone National Park with no residents or jurisdiction or a “free-fire” place where a man can get away with murder or can he? There are many references to the park, and it may have you looking at some areas in the park a little closer! It was written by a retired Wyoming Game and Fish warden.
An Interesting Fact About Greater Yellowstone: Did you know that microbes from the hotpots in Yellowstone National Park have helped scientists to study DNA?
Favorite Season in Greater Yellowstone: Summer. After a recent trip home to the Seattle area, I realized that I am no longer fond of the Seattle weather! I enjoy the sunshine and the clear days that summer brings to the GYE. Ok, winter brings some bluebird days here too. For me, summer is a time to be outside, watching animals and plants grow while access to hikes dry up.
