ERIN WELTY

SENIOR WYOMING CONSERVATION ASSOCIATE

Erin leads our conservation programs in the East Yellowstone/Absaroka Front area.  She works with local, state and federal agencies, landowners, and other nonprofit organizations to develop partnerships to promote lasting conservation results.

Growing up in the Interior of Alaska, Erin learned early the importance of open lands, waters, and wildlife. High school years in Kansas further convinced her that the conservation of these important places in harmony with working ranches and farmlands was where her focus should lie. After acquiring a B.S. in abused land rehabilitation from Montana State University – Bozeman, Erin gained diverse personal and professional experiences ranging from the Cody region to Alaska and back again. Major conservation wins include tribal partnerships on projects along Kodiak Island’s Karluk River.

Erin loves kayaking, fishing, and hiking with her husband, Kevin, and her grown daughter, Tessa. They are often found on the trails with their two dogs, Ruby & Copper.  When not working and exploring the GYE, she loves to travel, garden, read, and often hosts exchange students from around the globe.

Favorite Greater Yellowstone Animal: Grizzly bear

Favorite Season in Greater Yellowstone: Fall because there is something about warm days and cool nights, the changing of the leaves, and the animals gathering and getting fatter (hopefully) that brings comfort. The slowdown at the end of a busy summer, for all species, signals a time of rest and renewal is nearly upon us.
