BROOKE SHIFRIN
WILDLIFE PROGRAM MANAGER
Brooke leads Greater Yellowstone Coalition’s wildlife programs aimed at reducing human-wildlife conflicts, ensuring connected landscapes, and conserving wildlife migration and movement. She focuses on policies and projects that protect grizzly bears, wolves, and the iconic ungulates of Greater Yellowstone. In her work, Brooke strives to use effective leadership, collaboration, and strategic thinking as the key ingredients to securing durable policy changes and implementing innovative solutions that benefit wildlife.
Brooke holds a longstanding love of wild places, and a deep connection to the Rocky Mountain West. As a Colorado kid, her first trip to Yellowstone inspired a fascination with the iconic Yellowstone wildlife species that had long been lost from her home. Throughout her formative years, Brooke grew a strong curiosity for how ecosystems function. She studied everything from subalpine forest responses to natural disturbances to grizzly bear food sources. It was through this learning that she discovered a profound appreciation for the GYE. For over a decade, Brooke has been studying and working on wildlife conservation issues in the Northern Rockies.
Outside of her work at GYC, Brooke is usually soaking up the mountain sun, rain, or snow with her husband Wes and their pups Lola and Moon. She relishes immersing in the sights and sounds of wild nature, especially on skis or with multiple days of gear in tow. Brooke has a hard time staying inside during the magnificent seasonal shifts in Greater Yellowstone, but also enjoys a good puzzle, show, or book.
