KURT IMHOFF

SENIOR CLIMATE RESILIENCY ASSOCIATE

Kurt works across the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem to build resilience and facilitate the adaptation of aquatic and terrestrial systems in response to climate change. From large landscape-scale planning to local project implementation, he helps facilitate the Greater Yellowstone Coalition’s efforts to safeguard lands, waters, and wildlife. Based in GYC’s Lander, Wyoming office, Kurt enjoys his work at the nexus of science, policy, and hands-on stewardship.

Kurt’s exposure to the sheer scale and wildness of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem occurred while in graduate school. It stoked a fire for habitat conservation and restoration. As a geomorphologist—someone who studies how the earth’s surface is formed and changed—Kurt has since focused on both the technical and strategic components of restoration work across the West. Through planning, partnership building, and careful consideration of socio-environmental conditions, he has consistently found practical, long-term solutions to complex problems. Since making his way back to this remarkable region, he now works to protect its ecological integrity in the face of climate change.

Outside of work, Kurt takes every possible chance to get out on foot or ski to explore the Greater Yellowstone’s mountains, forests, and rivers with his partner, Kara, and his dog, Fisher.

Favorite Greater Yellowstone Animal: Pronghorn

Podcast I’d Recommend: Mountain & Prairie Podcast with Ed Robertson. It highlights the depth and breadth of what makes the West special, and how folks are working creatively to keep it that way.

Favorite Season in Greater Yellowstone: Fall. I love the onset of cool weather, and the way everything on the landscape starts to pivot towards winter.
